Collecting rain water (also known as Rain Water Harvesting) is not as simple as putting a barrel under your downspouts and waiting for the next shower to pass through (unless you're using it simply to water your plants/garden). RWH is a complex matter (much more complex than I had imagined) but can definitely make a difference in using all water responsibly. As one other reviewer noted, the cleanliness of the rain water (especially in urban areas) is a concern but the author lays out how to properly install a system that includes utilized filters and filtration systems so you're not consuming foul water. It's hard for someone to think about rain as a source for clean water but it’s not far-fetched at all. Apparently the author of this book agrees rain water collection should be a supplement and not the sole solution. I enjoyed the clarity with which he outlined the pros and cons.
